Oh Sweet Sydney

Sydney is always swaddled when she sleeps - her arms can get pretty crazy unless they are restrained.

Example A above.

We noticed that no matter how tight we wrap her, she usually always gets atleast one arm out there. Also we notice she usually loves her left arm - could she be a lefty? Maybe. My little brother is a lefty and he rocks.

My baby has outgrown her newborn diapers - she is now wearing size 1 :)

Her daddy also loves her.

Six Weeks

Six weeks. Six weeks since Sydney officially entered our lives.I had read many books and thought I was atleast half emotionally prepared for a baby. I thought I would understand her better. I almost treated it like a little project.

I was wrong.

I was not only surprised by how hard it really was to get to know her. The first two weeks I would look at her and not even feel any kind of connection of love. I did feel a lot of responsability to make sure she was ok - but love. That came later. But when it came - it came strong. Stronger than I ever thought it would.

I love my baby. I look at her and sometimes want to cry. I love looking at her in the dark while putting her to bed/naps. Her cheeks are so soft and gushy. The way she devours her binkie, the way she opens her little mouth and even cries a little. I am amazed. I am amazed at how beautiful she is.

Three weeks ago I did not feel this. I always hoped I would in the future - but just three weeks later I am obsessed with my little girl. I still don't connect that she was in my belly. I still believe she was just dropped off. But I don't really care about that. I just care she is here.

She seems so big to me and yet everyone says she's so little. I make it a habit that when she is up I only pay attention to her. I turn off the TV and put my cell away. I just focus on her. I sometimes think I can just keep these memories in my mind - but I see time just flying by.

I'm becoming a sleep natzi. I am totally focused on making her she gets enough sleep. I don't carry her everywhere. I stay home. Probably because it's cold season, she's small and it's alot of work to take a baby out. But I also just want to stay and be with her. I return to work in six weeks and I don't want to spend my precious time doing errands while she is awake. I want to just see her grow.

Last Night

Sunday was a great day. We made it through all THREE sessions of church. I love going to Relief Sociaty because everyone wants to hold Sydney and she gets lots of human cuddle time. I don't like her always in her car seat unless she is sleeping. I like her being held whenever she is not sleeping. I don't like her sleeping in arms - she never gets really deep sleep.

Speaking of sleep. After church and tithing settlement we headed to dinner with Allison and Ben Meakin. They rock. We love being with them. Allison is a pure ray of excitement and Ben is this mellow overprotective dad - the perfect match. We hung out from 5-7:45 and then headed home. Sydney had a rough crying spell at their house while trying to take a nap.

We got home at 8 pm and started her bedtime routine: a lavender massage, swaddled, a top off bottle and rocking in her dark room with a binkie. She was out by 9 pm. She cried for 10 minutes and then was out.

She slept 9 pm to 4 am. SEVEN HOURS!

Tyson and I slept slept about four. What?

Yep. I was worried sick. Is she breathing? Is she sick? Is some weird spider biting her? (That last one is weird but it's honestly one of my fears ..)

Along with my worry I also am losing my mind. I swear I hear babies crying. Not kidding. I walked by her room THREE times because I swore I could hear her cry. So I would check - silence. So frustrating.

I swear when 4 am came around and she actually woke up I was so relieved. I came back to bed at 5 am and still could not sleep. I kept checking my watch - is she sleeping too long? When should I wake her up? I'm so freaking tired why can't I sleep?

She woke up at 7:45 am - I had her bottle ready. She eat, was changed and played with Tyson until 8:30. She was then tired. We did her soothing routine again and she was down by 8:45 for her two hour nap. Oh man.

So the great news is that our sweet girl slept for 9 hours last night. Hopefully mom and dad can actually get on the same boat.

Bath Time

Sydney loves bath. Our friend Melissa was over two days ago and saw us giving her a bath. She took pictures and I'm so glad she did. I think these pictures show a true team at work. Tyson is amazing. He is fully engaged with Sydney. He helps me give baths, changes diapers and watches her from 9 pm - midnight every night so I can sleep. He just loves Sydney. He will be the first to get frustrated with her, but runs to her if she needs anything. He loves to cuddle on the couch. He loves to feed her and have her do little dances.

Sydney yesterday slep from midnight to 6:45 am - that's seven hours folks! Amazing. Of course I woke up at 5 and freaked because I thought I had missed her hunger cries. Not so. She is just maturing and sleeping longer. She usually sleep about 6-8 hours during the day with three naps and then usually about 7 hours on and off at night. She usually eats at 11 pm and 4 am. Then the day starts around 7 am. Shes truly a joy. Lots of work. Lots and lots of work - but she really is a great baby.

Five Weeks and Crying Continues

Sydney turned 5 weeks today. I have to admit the last week and half have been realllly hard. Sleep is short. Her crying times between 7 pm and midnight have become pretty intense. The worse night so far was Sunday. I started putting her down at 7:30 pm after her last feed and the crying started. I kept trying to sooth her and put her down for 2 hours. At 9:30 Tyson got home and took over. She just cried and cried. At 1 am I could hear Tyson start to lose it. I got up and took over. By 2 am I had resorted to the swing. She finally fell sleep at 2:20 am and I got into bed exhausted.

The only comfort was that she slept until 6:30 am. I woke up and fed her. She fell sleep at 7:30 and I climbed into bed. Both Tyson and I felt like we had been ran over by a truck. It was ugly and long.

We hear we are "almost there" and that this colic should slow down at 6 weeks. Oh man I hope so. Monday we took pictures with Celeste Hutchinson who recommned the book "healthy sleep habits, happy child". Her 7 week old sleeps from 6:30 pm to 2 am, feed and then down until 8 am. I was amazed! I went that day to get the book. I have been reading it all day. It's been really informative. I know lots of my friends had mentioned this book but I felt I had things under control - until last night. Oh man.

I love Sydney. She is amazing. She is sweet. She also knows how to bring Tyson and I down to our knees. I respect parents everywhere for toughing it out through all these times. I hope to report progress soon.

One Month: Fun Facts
Weight: 8 lbs 4 oz
Height: 21 inches even
Head: 14.8

She is a great morning person. Not a late owl. Gets really overstimulated when we keep her up past her sleep window.

Great eater. Eating between 3-4 oz per feeding. Her cheeks are getting so chubby! I love watching her while I sit in the dark while putting her to sleep.

She goes from 0---60 in 2 seconds when she wants something, whether it's her binkie, bottle or when she is bored.

She playes by herself for 10 minutes after every feeding. She quickly lets me know when she is done :)

She took her newborn pictures and peed on the blanket, also several times at doctors office.

She holds her burps. We have to try pretty hard to get her to burp.

She holds her little hands next to the bottle and it looks like she tries to hold it.

She has big eyes that are so beautiful. She is super focused and has the funniest facial expressions.. Tyson says she is just like me and one can tell exactly what she is thinking by her face.

She loves to sleep on her side. Hates her back.

She loves her swaddle. Her arms are pretty strong and scare her when she swings them.

Mad Scientist?

Sydney loves her bath's. Tyson loves turning her all sorts of weird characters during her bath.

Introducing our little Mad Scientist :)

Still the cutest thing ever to me.
