Remembering Grandma Gerber

We had the honor to attend Grandma Gerber's funeral this last week.

She passed on Tuesday, July 30th and we headed to Utah on Thursday, August 1st. Even though it was for a sad reason - the trip was filled with so many wonderful moments.

More than anything, Tyson and I felt such deep gratitude for his grandparents. Tyson's Grandpa was his hero in many ways. I also think they look SO much alike.

His grandparents were very ordinary people - but together they did really amazing things. All weekend there were stories of their trials - losing their 3 year old Kevin, house fires, Nyla's arm .... so you KNEW that they suffered and yet they kept going. And they not only survived, but they thrived as a couple and family. They had so much faith and back it up with hard work.

They built an amazing legacy. It's humbling to think about and more than anything we want nothing more than to bring pride to the Gerber name.

Betty was a strong woman - I actually see a lot of myself in her. I know she cried in private and stood up strong for her family. I hurt to think about all the pain she suffered and amazed at her happy disposition despite what life threw at her.

All her kids were by her. Her death was graceful and really beautiful. She was surrounded by those she loved and that loved her.

I just keep thinking of her meeting Grandpa and Kevin again - just typing it makes me swell up with tears.

I am so grateful that this is not the end - that God has a plan for our families. Because family is all that matters in the end.

We love you Grandma and Grandpa Gerber.
